Inspired by Divisionism and Pointillism, Chicago based artist Emma Lyons’ Abstracture style combines bold colorful strokes with geometric placement while exploring the themes of
being allowed to take up space, self love, and authenticity.

As Emma is committed to helping people develop more self love and acceptance, her bold works of art help her collectors feel encouraged and inspired as they experience this lovely life!

Project Goals

Emma old website was feeling hard to navigate, there was no way to structure her artwork for sale in collections. She wanted a website that:

  • Attracted more opportunities

  • Was easy to update so adding new content wasn’t overwhelming

  • Accurately reflected the brand and business she had worked so hard
    to build over the years

  • Showcased her art in a beautiful gallery showcasing her different collections in a way that’s easy for people to buy from

  • Gave her the ability to sell both prints and originals as one item with different shipping variants.

  • Integrated Squarespace and Shopify to give her both the visual design power of Squarespace with the advanced e-Commerce of Shopify

“The Before”

Until we started working together, Emma’s website was feeling outdated. She was finding it hard to organize her art into collections and figure out a structure for shipping multiple pieces at a time without over charging her collectors.

“My old website was not easy to work with and was becoming so expensive for so little. I dropped it and when I felt the need for a new one, after several failed tries to do it myself, gave up. When Pam came along and offered to do it I said yes, and was quite excited when I heard her ideas. “

“It was such a delightful process and I am so happy with the final product! Pamela was so easy to work with, and was able to create a website that exceeded the vision I had in my mind of this virtual space. She was so very patient, and gently encouraged me to keep making changes until I was 100% thrilled with the look and feel of each particular element”

Branding

Emma’s art is bight and bold so I chose fonts and colors to reflect her vibrancy. Emma already had a peach & turquoise brand, I added in the deep rich purple to give it a pop of darkness to highlight the bright colors of her artwork.

This combination of black, white, turquoise, peach, and deep purple reflect the vibrant colors of Emma’s paintings to create a gallery-like feel to showcase Emma’s artwork.

Logo Design

I created a logo using Emma’s signature which is perfect for an artist to “sign” their work with online.

A black and white drawing of a man running with a stick in hand, behind him there is a large tree and a fence.

The Website

I brought the fonts, branding, logo, and copy together to create a beautiful new home for Emma’s artwork that showcases her work. Including these pages:

- Core Pages: Home, Shop, Commissions, Live Art, About, Contact, Gift Cards
- An e-Commerce store hosted on Shopify, integrated into Squarespace to solve her problem of selling both originals and prints with different shipping variants, with a work around that save her $250/month in Shopify hosting fees

Results

Since launching the site Emma has been applying to higher level art shows and attracting new opportunities, and selling her art online.

“My website is SO beautiful!! As a person that believes ’if you want it done right, do it yourself’, so understandable that I had reluctance about outsourcing a website build. I mean how hard can it be?

And then I meet Pamela, and she offers to do my website build, and I hire her. I was won over by her insight into my vision of the space. In fact she clarified many ideas and brought them to life, better than I imagined from only a few short conversations.

The whole ‘birthing’ process was painless and surprisingly easy. She helped me make the right decisions when I was indecisive, gently urged me to submit material when I was procrastinating and always knew we’d get to a gorgeous finish. I must say I am so pleased and proud to share my website. Thank you Pam!”
